MADD Canada uses Gigit to ensure virtual fundraising success

The Situation

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone – including non-profit organizations – and MADD Canada is no exception. The national organization found itself, like many charitable organizations, in the challenging situation of needing to raise funds and continue to serve their communities, yet unable to do so in the traditional in-person ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At both a national and regional Chapter and Community Leadership Group level, MADD Canada began to look for options to continue their peer-to-peer fundraising activities and silent auction events, but virtually every option they reviewed was difficult to implement and costly, leaving them wondering how they might continue to effectively fundraise.


The Solution

After booking a series of demonstrations and working closely with the Gigit team to ensure that the platform could do everything MADD Canada required, MADD Canada chose to use Gigit – a free, comprehensive social platform built especially to serve the non-profit community both as a means to build community connections and as an operational management platform.

Gigit provides MADD Canada, along with its regional Chapters and Community Leadership Groups, the ability to manage all of their events, donations, tax receipts, volunteers, auctions, ticket and merchandise sales, fundraising, event and fundraising websites, and other activities in one intuitive and simple to use platform.

In fact, MADD Canada was so pleased with the Gigit platform that they have signed a 3-year commitment to use Gigit at a national level for all of their fundraising events and activities.


The Implementation

Because Gigit is free and accessible to any individual or organization to use at any time, getting started was easy for MADD Canada. But rather than let the national organization navigate their own start, Gigit resources were dedicated to ensuring their onboarding success.

Through meetings and conversations, Gigit not only onboarded MADD Canada and many regional Chapters, but also made a list of functional changes that MADD Canada specifically felt would ensure their ongoing success and ease of use. Gigit implemented those changes to the platform quickly to keep the momentum of their national fundraising efforts going.

Initial fundraising efforts included a national peer-to-peer fundraising event called Strides for Change – one of the organization’s most important annual fundraising initiatives that support impaired driving education, prevention, and support for its victims across Canada. 

Implementing the event at both a national level and across regional Chapters and Community Leadership Groups, included creating a Donate button for the event, regional microsites that gave each Chapter or Community Leadership Group the ability to tell their local community support story along with photos and videos, the opportunity for virtual fundraising walkers and runners to create their own personal fundraising page with their own story and ability for supporters to donate through Gigit to their walk or run directly, and overarching leaderboards, monitoring, and event and fundraising management functionality for every regional Chapter/Community Leadership Group, as well as at a national level.

In tandem with the virtual walk or run, Strides for Change has also traditionally included a silent auction event as an additional fundraiser. This year, the auction was held online using Gigit. Individual auction items were listed with a photo and starting bid amount. Bidders could place their bids for the items on the platform and watch a leaderboard to follow the bid amounts as well as continue to bid themselves. Email notifications sent to bidders advise when they have lost the top bid and, at the end of the auction, payment and shipping was handled through the Gigit platform as well.

For both the walk or run fundraising events and the auction, sharing functionality built right into Gigit gave both MADD Canada and fundraisers, supporters, donors, bidders, and community members the ability to share the events, the donate pages, and the auction items directly from Gigit right into emails, websites, and social media outlets with one click.


The Result

The MADD Canada and Gigit partnership has been a resounding success for both organizations. MADD Canada has been able to realize their ongoing fundraising objectives with zero cost added to their budget for software or platforms to facilitate these events. In addition, through their partnership with Gigit, MADD Canada has been able to have specific Gigit platform functionality created to further customize their user experience.

As with all Gigit users, Gigit has been able to continue developing and elevating the Gigit user experience based on feedback from MADD Canada that has benefitted all Gigit users. MADD Canada’s first-ever virtual walk or run to raise funds was implemented both nationally and at a regional level and, through Gigit, has helped to raise money and increase awareness of MADD Canada’s mission. In addition, their online auction has raised over $7,000. MADD Canada is so pleased with the auction results that they will be running another within a month. With their 3-year commitment in place, MADD Canada is set to continue leveraging Gigit as their primary partner for their successful fundraising and events ongoing.
